The aim of the Illawarra Digital Arts Collective, is to promote digitally based art practice to as wide an audience as possible.
It is hoped that this website will be a focus for the discussion and dissemination of ideas and artworks that have in some way been created by digital editing techniques. For me, this means some artistic input into the digital creation process. Recording sound digitally or photographs on a digital camera is not IMHO "Art", even though the process uses digital technology. This of course begs a number of questions of definition and where boundaries lie. Please help yourselves to the forums to discuss such matters.
The website is open to all locally practicing artists, and within reason, other Australian digital artists who do not have their own websites or means of displaying their creations to a wider audience. If you do have a website, by all means send us some details and we will post them in the "Links" section. It would also be good to have some galleries for non-local artists to show some of their images. Contact Andrew if you have images you would like to share. In principle, the aim is to be inclusive rather than exclusive.
If non-digital artists are feeling left out, contact me with a view to setting up a site for all artists, along same lines. The basic idea (as with this site) is to have your own gallery where you can show images of your work and your own webpages for CVs, artists statements etc. You will be able to edit, change and remove you own content as you wish - there will be no charge for a presence on the site. (Use the email address or form on the "Contact Us" link in the left menu)
As I have mentioned elsewhere, you must have an account to be able to post content to the site. There is an email validation process to stop spammers and bots from debasing the site. When you get an account. can you fill in your contact details in the artist's database. This makes it easier for people who might be interested in your art and want to give you money, to be able to contact you.
The site has much of its content visible to all visitors, but an account gives you access to content and facilities only visible to members.
